Metastatic
Cancer to the Orbit: In females, the most common tumor to
metastasis to the orbit is breast carcinoma followed by lung cancer.
In males, lung cancer is the most common malignancy metastatic
to the orbit followed by prostatic carcinoma. Presenting symptoms
include pain, proptosis or enophthalmos, and early ophthalmoplegia.
Often there is a history of previous surgery and/or chemotherapy
for a primary malignancy. An infiltrative mass is seen on CT scans.
Treatment is usually directed by an oncologist, however orbital
irradiation may be used as a pallitable treatment. Back to Orbit
